Moves to Canadian hosting
Your site and email moved to reliable hosting in Canada with no downtime and nothing lost along the way.
WordPress runs a huge share of the web, which means there are plenty of people who can install it and far fewer who can untangle it when it goes wrong. I'm a WordPress developer who builds custom themes, fixes sites that are slow or have been hacked, cleans up years of plugin clutter, and moves sites to dependable Canadian hosting.
This is for business owners with a WordPress site that has become fragile, slow or hard to update, and for teams that want a new WordPress build done properly. You deal with one developer from the first look to the final handover.
What I do
Custom WordPress themes
A custom theme is built for your content and nothing else. That means faster pages, fewer plugins, and editing tools set up for how your team actually works. I build with the block editor and custom blocks so you can add pages and sections without breaking the design or calling me for every change.
WooCommerce stores
I also build and repair WooCommerce stores: checkout problems, payment gateway setup, Canadian tax and shipping settings, and stores that have slowed to a crawl as the catalogue grew. If WooCommerce is no longer the right fit, I can explain what moving to Shopify would involve.
Fixing slow sites
Most slow WordPress sites suffer from the same few problems: oversized images, a heavy page builder, too many plugins loading scripts on every page, and cheap hosting. I measure the site, find what's actually costing time and fix the causes. You get before-and-after results so you can see what changed.
Cleaning up hacked sites
If your site is redirecting visitors, sending spam or flagged by Google, I remove the malware, find out how it got in, close that gap, reset access and harden the site so it doesn't happen again the following week. Where a clean backup exists, recovery is faster.
Plugin cleanup
Over the years, sites collect plugins that are abandoned, duplicate each other or are no longer used. Each one is a security and maintenance risk. I review every plugin, remove what isn't needed, replace abandoned ones with maintained alternatives or a few lines of custom code, and document what's left.
Migrations to Canadian hosting
Many Canadian businesses prefer their site and customer data hosted in Canada, whether for privacy, speed or peace of mind. I move the site, database, email settings and DNS with testing and a rollback plan, so visitors never see a broken page. If you collect personal information, the PIPEDA website privacy guide explains your obligations, and Quebec Law 25 adds extra rules for information about Quebec residents sent outside the province.
Hiring a WordPress developer: what to look for
- They ask what the site needs to do before talking about themes and plugins.
- They give you a fixed quote for defined work, and explain what would change it.
- You own the result. Admin access, your hosting account and your domain stay in your name.
- They work on a copy first. Changes are tested on a staging site, not live in front of customers.
- They plan for after launch. Someone needs to keep it updated, and you should know who.
If you searched for a WordPress developer near me, it's usually because you want someone you can actually reach. I work with clients across Canada in Canadian time zones, by phone, email and video call, with the same response you'd expect from someone down the street.
When WordPress is the right choice, and when it isn't
WordPress suits content-driven sites where your team wants to publish and edit often and needs a wide choice of integrations. For sites that need maximum speed, very large page counts or tight security, a modern Next.js and headless CMS build can be a better fit. Slo-Pitch Central, a national platform with tens of thousands of pages, is an example of where a different stack made sense. I'll recommend whatever fits your situation rather than whatever I happen to prefer.
How it works
- Quick look. Send me your site address or run the free website check. I review the setup, plugins, hosting and the problem you are facing.
- Fixed quote. You get a clear scope, a price and a timeline.
- Staging copy. Work happens on a private copy of your site so customers never see a half-finished change.
- Test and deploy. Changes are tested for speed, forms, accessibility and security, then pushed live.
- Handover. You get notes on what was done and how to keep the site healthy.
Keeping it healthy afterwards
Most of the problems I fix come from sites nobody was looking after. The WordPress maintenance packages cover updates, backups, security and monthly change time, so the site stays fast and safe after the fix.

Questions people ask
How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer in Canada?
It depends on the job. Speed and plugin cleanups start from $750, hacked site cleanups from $600, migrations to Canadian hosting from $500, and custom theme builds from $6,000, all in Canadian dollars before GST/HST. Repairs are quoted after a quick look at the site, and larger projects get a fixed quote after a short call.
Can you fix a WordPress site that has been hacked?
Yes. I remove the malicious code, find how the attacker got in, close that gap, reset all access, and harden the site against a repeat. If Google has flagged the site, I help request a review once it's clean. Most cleanups finish within a few days. Keeping the site updated afterwards is the best way to stop it happening again.
Do you work with page builders like Elementor or Divi?
Yes. I can maintain, fix and extend sites built with page builders. If the builder is the main reason your site is slow or hard to edit, I'll explain the option of rebuilding with a custom theme and the block editor, along with what it would cost. Sometimes keeping the builder and cleaning around it is the better value.
Do I need Canadian hosting for my WordPress site?
Federal privacy law doesn't generally require Canadian hosting, but you are responsible for protecting personal information wherever it is stored, and Quebec adds extra steps before data leaves the province. Many businesses choose Canadian hosting for simpler privacy obligations and faster load times for Canadian visitors. I can move your site with no downtime.
Will you work on a WordPress site someone else built?
Yes, most of my WordPress work is on sites someone else built. I start by reviewing the theme, plugins and hosting, then tell you plainly what is in good shape and what isn't. You decide what to fix now, what can wait and what isn't worth the money. Nothing is changed on your live site until it's been tested on a copy.
